Phriri Farm in Limpopo
Anif Said Phiri (Atupele Poultry Project) is a regular client since 2007. He started off with 7 hectares of vegetables but has grown over the years to more than 20 hectares. He has been funded about twice a year (around November/December and June) and repaid the loans in full. The current loan was to support the farmer to plant 22 hectares of tomatoes. The total cost of planting 22 hectares of tomatoes is about R 1.3 million. The loan would therefore only cover part of the total cost of planting the tomatoes. Atupele is one of the farmers who need and can effectively use more than R 500 000 if this could be provided to the farmer. The limit placed on what can be provided to an individual farmer is in this case a limitation.
