BPI

BPI is Bophuduchuwana Production Incubator.  This is a company formed by the emerging farmers for the purpose of farming collectively under one legal entity.  The company is managed by 5 farmers who form an executive.  Each farmer has 20ha allocated to them by the Taung traditional authority.  BPI takes advantage of the economies of scale in farming as one unit as opposed to small individual farmers.  An example is sourcing mechanization and insurance that would otherwise be too expensive for each individual farmer. BPI started with has 57 farmers under it’s wing producing barley, maize, wheat, Lucerne, and ground nuts.
